Wear It All Challenge: Take a Bow

I saw this dress ages ago on a user and knew I have to have it right away. It took me months to find it in the Bazaar but it was so worth it! The colour is amazing and it fits oh-so-perfectly! And may be it's just me but I think it even makes my doll look a bit taller. Add to that the nude platforms and her looks seem way longer. The shoulder bow is an adorable detail but it makes it a next to impossible to fit in a jacket it an outfit. I decided on nude accessories but it would look just as amazing paired with black/white or even gold silver. Personally I wouldn't use it with colours but I'm sure someone else could pull it off.

Wear It All Challenge: The Modern Twist

I'm so sorry for my absence but I was super busy with my papers and my finals afterwards I really didn't have that much free time on my hands. Anyway, my exams are almost over and I have a few outfits that I have prepared  beforehand. So, allow me to bore you to death with a bunch of boring red dress looks.

This bejewelled dress is a gem itself, inspired by Chanel Pre-Fall collection back in 2012, it was part of the Bollywood Film Theory release that, unfortunately is no longer in StarPlaza. As gorgeous as it is, it's quite impractical both in Stardoll and in real life.To be honest I prefer it in grey but the shoulders of the original are too odd for my taste. On the other hand, I can't deny that the way the fabric drapes is breathtaking.

The main reason I prefer the Stardoll version over the original is that they have tuned down the shoulder pads and it looks way better fitted. I know that it is inspired by Inidan fashion but to me it has always looked like something a Byzantine empress would wear (mainly because of the mosaic like top part) or, may be a rich Roman noblewoman would treasure during the ban on silk in the Empire. I tried to convey that idea in the outfit by using simple yet eye-catching gold jewellery and indigo accessories, which as you know was a rare and exquisite dye back in the days. On the other hand, the sort length of the dress adds to a more modern yet sophisticated look.

Downton Abbey

One of my favourite blogs - Stardoll Broadcast - is holding it's first competition and it's quite an interesting one! The objective is to create a 20's look inspired by Downton Abbey. You can do that either on your own doll both in your suite and in the StarPlaza or you could use the amazing doll of the owner - ilgd. For the rest of the rules, visit the blog post here

To give you all some inspiration, here are eight looks I've crated just for fun once I saw the theme of the competition. Unfortunately the Decades sore closed but you can still let your imagination run wild with what's still available in the Plaza!

The deadline of the competition was recently extended until the 20th so you have five days to enter. I'm sure you'll have fun!

A quick update

I'm in the midst of my finals and I'm quite busy but I still find time to procrastinate and spend time on Stardoll and to post here, even if it's not as often as I'd like.

Anyway, I've been getting more and more demotivated recently styling some of the pieces in my closet (don't worry - I said I'll do them all and I will!) so I decided to get rid of some them. Here's the plan - at the end of each section of my closet (dresses, pants, skirts, tops and jackets) I'm going to make a give-away for the readers of the blog followed by a 50% sale.

In addition, given that Skeletons of a medoll will soon reach 500 page views, I would appreciate if you guys were a bit more active in the comments section. To encourage to share your thoughts at the end of each month - starting from July - the person who was submitted the most comments will receive a gift from their wish-list and will be featured in a post. The only rule is that no single person can win two times in a row.

Lastly, I'd like to apologize for not having a decent Followers section in the sidebar but for some reason Blogger won't let me add the gadget. Until that is fixed I be asking you to follow the blog (tough I'd really appreciate it!) but I also won't be able to to commemorate reaching certain number of followers.  Still, I'd appreciate if someone could tell me how fix that, in the mean time you could also find me on Google + and Pinterest.

That's all for now - wish me luck with my finals!
A.

Edit: I spent the day going trough IT blogs and found a complicated solution to my problem with the Followers add-on. So now, after I wrote the first few lines of programming code in my life (yey me!)  you can finally subscribe to Skeletons of a medoll right there in the sidebar. I promise that once I'm done with my finals I'll get around to celebrate the occasion with a nice riffle. The price will be dependent on the number of people following the blog by the and of the June.

Wear It All Challenge: Mad Men - The Stardoll Edition

There are no words to express how much I love this dress! I adore historicity inspired fashion - from Greek and Roman tunics; Medieval, Elizabethan and Victorian gowns to the flapper dresses of 20s and the full skirts and wiggle looks of the 50s. This one is an example of the latter. The original version of the dress you see above is one of the amazing works of the costume designer Janie Bryant for Mad Men. The design is perfect for Christina Hendricks' hourglass figure but it translates pretty well on Stardoll as well.

I know I must be getting boring with all those simple stylings but I can't help myself! I wish I could tell you that would change soon but I have so many more dresses in my closet and you'd have to endure with me. I decided on gold accessories mainly because of the brooch on that beautifully folded collar - the compliment the brick colour of the dress, which is also on my doll's lips.

Accessories:
Gold Looped Belt - Voile Holiday Boutique

The main reason for my simple look is my desire not to hide any part of the beautifully designed dress but still, I want you to know how versatile this piece is so, just to give you an idea - there are a few other items from my closet which would look amazing combined with that dress.

Wear It All Challenge: Widow's Wail

This dress is inspired by Alexander McQueen's Fall collection way back in 2006. The clothes were inspired by the designer's Scottish origins and is refereed to as Widows of Culloden and it was presented under that name in the MET's Savage Beauty exhibition. Unfortunately, the Stardoll version is not as detailed as the original, but it is still gorgeous.

As you can see I tried to imitate the original runaway version as close as possible - from the Victorian collar down to the shoes.Nonetheless, you can go for a more modern look by adding a leather jacket or a nice sweater and it will still be amazing.

Wear It All Challenge: Plaid Fur

The first time I saw this dress it was in pandorascloset suite layered under a ton of other stuff and I fell in love with the print. But once I saw the dress itself I wasn't so sure - the shape is a bit odd, the design is quite flat and the breasts look just weird - there was no way I was paying a bunch of Stardollars for it in the Bazaar! Since then I've seen it around a few more times and it always looked amazing on other users so when it finally got re-released in Callie's Picks I went ahead and bought it for myself.
I really like this outfit - the fur vest covers the odd parts of the dress and it looks amazing with the print and the boots... Let me tell you a little bit about these boots - they are so beautifully designed, so perfect to look at and so damn impossible to style! They are way too sexy to be worn with anything revealing, too well fitted to be used over trousers, too beautiful to be hidden under wide-leg pants or maxi skirts.  And for the first time ever I was able to balance them just right - the high collar dress is not too short (I've stated my issue with skirt lengths), the fur vest hints on my doll's curvy shape but the boots are what makes it sexy!

Wear It All Challenge: The Tartan Shirtdress

I love shirtdresses - long or short, long-sleeved or sleeveless, plain or checked - it does not matter! It's a pity that Stardoll has so few of them. I was looking for the original real life version but there are so many similar dress I couldn't determine which one is the one that inspired Stardoll. Just google it and be inspired!

Edit: After a bit of research I think I managed to find the original dress. It is designed by D&G and was worn by Isla Fisher in Confessions of a Schopacholic. Later it is also seen in the second season of Gossip Girl on Tylor Momsen. Credit goes to seen on STARDOLL.

I went for an outfit with a bit of edge but decided not to add fishnet stockings - this is something I'd be more inclined to wear in real life and I wanted to keep it as close to my wardrobe as possible. Instead I added a huge handbag, as the once I prefer myself and a wide studded belt to give the dress a better, more fitted shape.

Wear It All Challenge: NYC Royalty

Firstly, I've spent the last hour browsing through Style.com looking for that dress. I knew it was from the first Voile Holiday Boutique and I know the items in that collection were inspired by various Fall 2009 collections but still - it wasn't enough. I almost gave up but before that I googled "2009 one shoulder dress" just to see if I'd be lucky enough to find it that way.
Secondly, this is yet another dress that has always screamed Serena van der Woodsen to me. And what do you know - I check the search results and I see Serena wearing the dress I've been looking for in the 20th episode of the third Gossip Girl season .
So now I can tell you that this dress is inspired by Carlos Miele Fall 2009 collection and it's just as stunning in real life as it is on Stardoll.

Need I say why I went for a super simple outfit - a dress like that only needs accessories that emphasize it and not a tad more. I'm even uncertain about the clutch.

Wear It All Challenge: See Right Through

I've always had issues with see-through dresses, I don't mind sheer blouses but dresses are too much for me. That being said, that dress is oh-so-cute - the ruffles cover the right places, the colors compliment each other quite all but still - I'd never wear this is real life. It's from Sonia Rykiel's 2009 RTW collection (and by the way, do you recognize the beret? It's one of the most wanted old HBs).

As for styling it... that was hard - the sleeves get in a way when you try to put a shirt or a jacket over, the visible underwear  looks odd when you try to put something under it and bras just look odd under the ruffle on the breasts. Therefore I saw no choice but to keep the outfit simple. Still, I didn't want the look to be too plain and the Flowly Lock gave the additional flare to the hair.
To keep everything in balance I decided to focus on the two colours of the dress - I used the pink in the hair and on the lips and the red in the accessories.

Wear It All Challenge: Burgundy Business

While preparing this post I was surprised to realize that The Sonia Rykiel Tribute store consisted of items inspired by not just one but a few real life collections. This amazing dress was part of the resort collection back in 2011. Pretty as a picture, isn't it?I'm crazy about the sheer sleeves.

As much as I love the design, I find it a bit limiting - it's so beautiful I don't want to cover any part of it. To avoid that I choose to pair it with the Chanel hung up blazer and I think they work together pretty well. I decided on a formal business lady look - by the way you will see a lot of outfits in this style. I'm a huge House of Cards fan and Claire Underwood's style is flawless and even tough her black and white minimalistic style is quite difficult to translate to Stardoll I'll give my best and add a few colors.

Wear It All Challenge: Baby blues

I've always found this dress adorable. Seriously, just look at it! The high collar makes it a bit difficult to put a blouse over it as use it as a skirt, but not impossible. Nonetheless, I went for the simplest of stylings - just beautiful white accessorizes that emphasize on the lighter shades of blue in the print.

Wear It All Challenge: Front Row

A super quick post that was lost in my drafts for ages. It's about yet another Red Carpet dress. This one, as stated on the label is inspired by Marc by Marc Jacobs'  S/S ready to wear collection back in 2010. About a year after it's original released it was given away for free.I have mixed feelings about this item - not that it's bad but there is something about it that bothers me. Probably it's the cut-out pieces at the waist - I've never been really sold on similar designed in real life.

Anyway when it came to styling the dress the triangular cut-outs gave the idea  to use the same shape both in the earrings and in the shoes. The basic idea behind the outfit was to crate something one would wear at a fashion show and I hope I've achieved that goal.
