Wear It All Challenge: Red Velvet

Remember how back in the fall/winter season of  2010 velvet was huge? I never adopted the trend in real life but this Nanette Lepore inspired dress caught my attention. I like the retro vibe and the dropped waist but the real version kind of reminds me of a curtain wrapped around the model. Stardoll tuned down the shine and I think that's the main reason I prefer their take of the dress.

I've said it before and I will probably say it a hundred times again in the course of this project but I can't help it - I love retro/ period looks. Given the huge cleavage this is more of a modern rehash. I love the burgundy and I build the colour scheme around it using darker tones for the shoes and the clutch and I decided on a white jewellery to contrast it.

A new look

I'm incredibly happy to show you the new header of the blog. This stunning graphic crated by the talented aga19988 was generously given to me by it's owner polarbearmonkie and I don't think I could possibly thank her enough. This new look fits the image I had about Skeletons of a Medoll perfectly. Sadly the designer left the Stadoll scene some time ago but you can still take a look at her amazing cations at her blog and at the Graphic Vault

On an unrelated note, I'd like to apologize once again for my lack of activity here but my time is even more limited than I imagined it would be and after a few days I'll be off to a vacation for at least two weeks. I'll try to put together some outfits before I go and I do promise that once I get back I'll try my best to catch up.

Hope your summer is going as well as mine is!

Wear It All Challenge: Street Chic

This is one of those items I can't help but adore. It's inspired by Monique Lhuillier collection for the fall 2009 and was seen on Mila Kunis on the Emmys back in the same year. The texture doesn't look as good on Stardoll as it does in real life but it's still amazing and the burgundy is oh-so-stunning.

As I said in the last post, red and grey is my new favourite combination and I believe it works very well for this look. I really wanted to create something a bit more interesting than the last two outfits and I do think the result is stunning street chic look.

Wear It All Challenge: Regal

I must admit I kind of cheated. I moved most of my gowns and couture clothes in a separate room so most of them will not be part of the challenge at least for now.  Perhaps I will make a series of posts with them when the Awards season rolls around but for now I'll leave them aside. As gorgeous as they are, they are a bit boring to style and this stunning Zac Posen inspired dress is hardly an exception.

I added the arm ornaments to make the look at least a bit more interesting but still, the focus remained on the gown. I must admit I'm quite taken with the combination of red and grey and I will surely use it again.

Wear It All Challenge: Masquerade

Mcqueen has always translated well onto Stardoll and this dress is no exception. I must admit that I even like the SD version a bit better. There is something in the fabric of the original that I really don't appreciate. The same goes for the the hole for the hand.

The one thing I never liked about this item was the length so when styling it I decided to correct that by making it longer. I went all along with the masquerade them given that it is next to impossible to crate a casual outfit with a dress like that.

Wear It All Challenge: The School Teacher

I know I haven't been very active lately but at least I had an amazing unexpected road-trip with a friend of mine and I hardly had any time on my laptop. Now that I'm back home for a while I really have to catch up with the challenge. As I've said before I adore retro clothing and this dress, inspired by L'Wren Scott's Fall RTW collection back in 2009. Scott was wickedly talented and her death earlier this year was a huge loss for the world of fashion.

The original is so much more stunning than the Stardoll version - it fits way better and the black version is way classier than the red one. I found the dress a bit challenging to style and I really didn't want to go just with a purse and pair of shoes yet again. I must admit I just love the scarf tied around the bag and the combo of the two jackets. The glasses are were added just to give the final look a bit of retro touch.

A Competition, a Giveaway and a Clearing Sale

First of all, as July have already started so does the competition for most active reader - at the end of the month the person who has competed most times will receive a gift from their wishlist.

To give you an additional incentive I'm also starting a  small giveaway to give you a chance to win a Red Carpet dress of your choosing. All you need to do to participate is to visit my suite (click here) and to style the dress you'd like to win, take a picture and post it in the comments under this post. You'd also have to be a follower of the blog. Since Skeletons of a Medoll is not very well known I will not put a time limit - I will close the givaway/competition when there have been at least 10 entries for both dresses.

Finally, I'm having a huge sale in both my Yacht rooms (click the pictures below to enlarge) and you're more than welcome to check it out. All prices are negotiable given that I'd love to get rid of all these items. I'd appreciate your help with that!

Wear It All Challenge: Cut Me Out

I really liked that dress - I love the colour, the shape, the design but it's so damn boring to style! At least for me that is. It was part from the last DKNY collection ever released by Stadroll back in 2010, which was based on the Fall RTW collection in 2009. May be I would've liked it more if they stayed closer to the original rather than add the cut out sleeves. It's just odd, somehow.

As I said - for me that dress was boring to style. It didn't look good used just as a skirt or top and the waist part doesn't work well with belts. There was little for me to do than add a jacket and be grateful that I checked it from my list.

L-S Cut Out Dress  - DKNY
Sharp Cape Blazer - Rio
Hung Up Blazer - Chanel Tribute
